LÄPIN KULTÄ, 2003

LÄPIN KULTÄ was a musical duo active between 2003 and 2004, composed of New York-based Finnish artist Päivi Björkenheim and French-American visual artist Patrick Martinez.

Their first album, self titled LÄPIN KULTÄ was recorded on an MD recorder at home and at Lukas Ligeti ‘studio in New York, between January and April 2003.

LÄPIN KULTÄ (Päivi Björkenheim and Patrick Martinez)

Paivi is the wife of Raoul Bjorkenheim and I am not yet familiar with Patrick. Läpin Kultä is the name of their duo project and they utilize guitars, drums and vocals. Their sound is a twisted mix of strange, haunting, child-like vocals, somewhere between the Residents and west coast loony John Schuller. Nightmarish drones, snippets of feedback, free-floating percussion, eerie ghost-like spirits creeping around and other gently mesmerizing images.
